A Day in the Life of a Firefighter - Commemorate International Fire Fighters’ Day in Sri Lanka for first time International Firefighters’ Day in Colombo - Fire Fighters Day Book ගිනි භටයන්ගෙ දින පොත The International Firefighter's Day celebration was held on May 14,2023, at Independence Square to commemorate International Firefighter's Day. This program was organized by the Fire Services Department.At the invitation of the Municipal Commissioner, Hon Janaka Wakkambura State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, partcipated as the chief guest of this ceremony. Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council, Secretary of the Colombo Municipal Council, Hon Chief Secretary of the Western Provincial Council, Commissioner of the Western Local Government, Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government,Chief Secretary of the Western Local Government, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, Municipal Commissioner of other local authorities, Head of Departments of the Colombo Municipal Council were present in the ceremony. An attractive parade including various activities organized by the Colombo Municipal Fire Service Department to celebrate International Firefighters' Day with pride was held at the Independace Square in Colombo. The Colombo Fire Brigade started in the late 1800s. At that time, the water pot was used to put out the fire. There is evidence that the Colombo Fire Brigade officially started in 1898, and there was a permanent building in 1900. At this time, a cart equipped with a water tank pulled by 4 men with iron wheels was used to extinguish the fire. In the year 1905, Mr. L. A. B. Pill, a British national, became the chief of the Colombo Fire Brigade. Until then, the number of employees, consisting of 09 people, increased to 19 people. Horse-drawn carts and man-operated hand pumps were used instead of water-drawn tanks. The permanent building of the fire brigade was the old building between Reclamation Road and Bangasala Street in Pettah near the harbour. 1905-1913 was the reign of Mr. Pill. After that, Mr. PH Lanway, a British national, became the chief officer. At that time, the service entered a mechanized age. Chariots have retired from the fire brigade. By 1923, the fire brigade had increased to 45 personnel and had two ambulances, two pumps, a water tender and four fire engines, two chillscapes (wheeled life ladders). The firemen had to work continuously for six days and nights and only got one day off. In 1929, during the labor struggle, a fire truck was attacked and set on fire. From 1913 to 1931, Mr. Lanway controlled the fire brigade. After that Mr. Mak became the chief officer and his service period was from 1931 to 1933. In 1933, the first Sinhala Sri Lankan was appointed to the position of chief officer. He is Mr. BE Weerasinghe. In 1938, an additional volunteer fire brigade was formed during World War II. In 1944, the volunteer fire brigade was disbanded and only the permanent fire service was employed. Those in the know say that when Japan bombed Sri Lanka (Colombo) during the Second World War, the bomb that was thrown at the fire brigade headquarters fell on the fish market. #Srilankan #Firefighters #IndependenceSquare #FirefightersDay #international #InternationalFirefightersDay #fire #training #program #firetraining #firefighter #firefighters #fire #fypp #fypシ #fypシ゚viral #viralvedios #virelfirefighting #gallemunicipalcouncil #withsusa #colombo #municipalcouncil #srilankannews #colombo1sttimes #virelnews #SriLankan #SLnews #colombo #Srilanka #international #fire #fighters #day #celebration #firesafety #firefighter #firefighterchallenge මෙතෙක් ලංකාවේ සිදුනොකළ විශේෂ සැමරුමක් ලෙස ජාත්‍යන්තර ගිනි නිවනන්ගේ දිනය ගිනිනිවන රථ 45ක් සහිතව කොළඹට නිදහස් චතුරස්‍රයේදී පැවැත්විය. ජාත්‍යන්තර ගිනිභට දිනය යෙදී ඇති අද (14) දිනය වෙනුවෙන් කොළඹ මහ නගර සභාවේ ගිනි නිවීමේ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සංවිධානය කළ විහේෂ සංදර්ශනයක් අද පෙරවරුවේ කොළඹ 7, නිදහස් චතුරශ්‍රයේදී පැවැත්විණි. ගිනි නිවීමේ රථ පෙළපාලියකින් නිදහස් චතුරශ්‍රය වෙත පැමිණි ගිනි නිවන නිලධාරීන් එහිදී සංදර්ශනය පැවැත්වීය. 1998 දෙසැම්බර් 02 වනදා ඕස්ට්‍රේලියාවේ වික්ටෝරියා ප්‍රාන්තයේ ඇතිවූ ලැව් ගින්නක් මැඩ පැවැත්වීමට ගිය ගිනි නිවීමේ භටයන් 05 දෙනෙක් ගින්නට හසුවීමෙන් මිය ගොස් ඇත. ඔවුන් සිහිගැන්වීම පිණිස 1999 වර්ෂයේ මැයි 04 වන දිනය, ලෝක ගිනි නිවීමේ භට දිනය ලෙස නම් කෙරිණි. ගිනි නිවීමේ හමුදා භට ඒකකය පිළිබඳ රටේ ජනතාවට තිබෙන්නේ අල්ප දැනුමක් පවතින බවද ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුළ 1892 වර්ෂයේදී කොළඹ නගරය මුල්කර ගනිමින් කුඩා ඒකකයක් ලෙස ආරම්භ වූ ගිනි නිවීමේ සේවාව ගින්නක් පමණක් නොව අනතුරක් ඇතිවූ අවස්ථා වලදීත් ඔවුන්ගේ සේවා සපයනු ලැබේ. මෙම අවස්ථාව සදහා කොළඹ මහ නගර සභාවේ ගිනි නිවීමේ හමුදා ඒකකයේ නිලධාරීන්, පළාත් සභා හා පළාත්පාලන රාජ්‍ය අමාත්‍යංශයේ සංවර්ධන අංශයේ අතිරේක ලේකම් ඇතුළුව අමාත්‍යංශයේ නිලධාරීන් කිහිප දෙනෙකුද සහභාගී වූහ.
