In the process of attempting to use leather leaf fern as a mordent (by boiling it to achieve a light yellow liquid that I would then soak fabric in*), I learned that the leaves produce a lovely peachish/pink color that can be used as natural plant dye! *I received a comment that ferns have a high amount of aluminum and can be used as a mordant. I researched and learned that this is true. After learning that, I started using a couple of different varieties of fern from the yard to use as mordant. This was my first time attempting to use this variety as a mordant, and it turned out the liquid it produces is a magnificent color.
