UAD Unison Neve 1084 V/S Clean UAD mic pre | Is there a difference?

Breaking away from our usual Live Sessions, we decided to start making some tutorial videos, studio gear reviews, and general ‘can you hear the difference’ videos. For the first episode in this new series, we explore one of the most revered mic pres in existence, the holy grain of the sound of Rupert Neve. Using the awesome emulation technology of Universal Audio Apollo’s unison mic pre, we can record the same source/performance on the Neve 1084 and the UAD’s clean mic pre using the Apollo x8p. How much of a difference does a mic pre make? To answer this we record a guitar and vocals (courtesy of Harmony Siganporia) into the 2 mic pres at the same time, and try to A/B the samples to see if Divyang, Parijat, Raag, and Daidipya can hear the difference.
