Living in the United States there is a lot of history that gets glossed over in our public education system. Many events are left out of our history books, specially when these events paint a picture of our nation's bloody and racisst history. La Matanza is an event that I never learned about in my many years of public school. This event lasting from 1910-1920 was triggered by Anti-Immigrant sentiment in the United States, specifically Texas, where lynchings and murders against Mexicans were undertaken by members of the Texas Rangers as well as white Texan vigilantes. Often these murders were justified as responses to raids from Mexican bandits during the Mexican Revolution, as well as raids related to the Plan of San Diego. Often those targeted were civilians guilty of the crime of simply being the same ethnic group as the bandits.
