Bausatzbesprechung: Academy Panzer III Ausf. J im Maßstab 1/35

Neben einigen anderen Herstellern bietet auch Academy seit einer Weile einen neuen Panzer III Bausatz an, nämlich eine frühe Ausführung J in der Tropenvariante. Dadurch setzt sich Academy etwas von der Konkurrenz von Ryefield Model ab, die eine späte Ausführung J anbieten. Der Bausatz macht einen sehr soliden Eindruck, was mich sehr positiv überrascht hat. Die Bauteile sind durchgehend makellos gefertigt, Mängel wie Sinkstellen und Grat sucht man vergebens. Einzig die Auswerfmarken auf fast allen Kettenteilen der Segmentketten sind etwas störend und werden definitiv eine Maßnahme von den Modellbauern erfordern, die es mit den Ketten etwas genauer nehmen. Dafür liegen nützliche und einfach zu gebrauchende Photoätzteile bei, vornehmlich für die Lüftergitter, und auch die Abziehbilder machen einen guten Eindruck. Die Bauanleitung verfügt über große Abbildungen und ist leicht verständlich, die farbigen Profile für die Bemalungsanleitung sind eine nette Zugabe. Besonders faszinierend finde ich, dass der Bausatz auch eine Menge alternative Teile beinhaltet. Diese sind vornehmlich nicht für die Ausführung J gedacht, sondern für spätere Varianten wie die Ausführungen L, M und N. Das überrascht doch sehr, zumal es von Academy bisher nur diese eine Variante auf dem Markt gibt. Man kann also fest davon ausgehen, dass noch weitere Varianten folgen werden. Man könnte also theoretisch mit diesem Bausatz eine Ausführung M oder N recht gut realisieren, wobei es mit Sicherheit näher liegt, eine kampfwertgesteigerte Ausführung J darzustellen. Es wurden einige Fahrzeuge früherer Baulose, etwa der Ausführung J, mit der kurzen 7,5cm L24 Kanone ausgestattet, wobei ein gewisser Teil der alten Merkmale erhalten blieb. Preislich liegt der Bausatz bei ungefähr 35-40€, womit er etwas günstiger ist als der Bausatz ohne Inneneinrichtung von Ryefield Model. Der ist aber mittlerweile gar nicht mehr so häufig zu finden bei den Händlern, wie ich erst kürzlich festgestellt habe! Jedenfalls finde ich den Bausatz von Academy anständig und betrachte ihn als vernünftige Alternative zu anderen Panzer III J Bausätzen auf dem Markt. Besides other kit brands Academy is also offering a new Panzer III kit for a while now, namely an early Ausführung J in the tropical configuration. That way the kit is not too similar to the counterpart by Ryefield Model, who offer a late J variant. The kit looks very decent and detailed, which has surprised me in a positive sense. The kit parts are very well made, i could not find any serious flaws like sink marks or flash. Only the ejection pin marks on the track sections of the segmented tracks are a bit annoying and will certainly require a countermeasure by those modellers, who take their tracks seriously. Anyway, we get a few useful and simple to use photo-etched parts, they encompass mostly air intake grills, and the decals look pretty neat as well. The instructions have big depictions and are easy to follow, the color profiles in the painting guide are a big plus. I am fascinated in particular by the amount of alternative parts in this kit. Those are not even meant for the J variant, but for the later L, M and N variants. This is surprising, since Academy has only offered this variant so far. We can expect to see more variants in the future. In theory one could turn the kit into a M or N version, but it makes more sense to depict a retrofitted J variant. A couple of older vehicles, like the J, received the short 7,5cm L24 gun as an update, but maintained a good portion of the earlier features. The kit costs about 34-40€, which makes it a bit more beneficial than the Ryefield Model kit without the interior. That one is not easy to find anymore, as i have found out recently! Anyway, i think the Academy kit is decent and i consider it to be a reasonable alternative to other Panzer III J kits on the market.
