The life of Custodio Dalmau Salmon, closely linked to that of his brother David, passed during childhood and adolescence in Barcelona, ​​a city that awakened artistic trends from abroad, either through art exhibitions, the construction of modern buildings or fashion catwalks. Dalmau children always liked graphic design, and Custodio chose a career in architecture with the idea that it was a creative profession; every morning he made the long journey to the Bellaterra campus without much conviction, hoping to find what he was looking for. During one of those college summers, Custo convinced his brother to accompany him on a motorcycle trip across the United States; during that journey they discovered different cultures, especially that of the southern California surfers, with their own lifestyle and a sense of fashion that did not follow the dictates of those of New York, London or Paris. Upon returning to Spain they began to design t-shirts mixing illustrations. The peculiar way of sewing the shirts, combining the prints with silks, gave such an original result that nothing like it could be found anywhere in the world. The brand was baptized as Custo of Barcelona , which, with the passage of time, would become Custo Barcelona . They were the first designers to make printed T-shirts, initially only for men, and they were an immediate success: they began to show their collections in London and other large capitals, and partnered with the Catalan textile company Meyba so that it took care of everything related to management while they were dedicated to product development.
