The 2018 Halloween marathon might be over, but this game may very well be the most horrifying thing I've played yet. Drake of the 99 Dragons was released by Idol FX (Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi, Gast) in 2003 to scathing reviews and pitiful sales. To this day, it's still considered to be the very worst game on the original Xbox. In March 2018, someone who owns the rights to all of Majesco's old IPs decided to re-release the rare PC port on Steam. Now, I originally purchased this for just $1.39 out of morbid curiosity because I've heard about its infamy in magazines since I was a kid. Much to my surprise, it turns out the PC port of Drake of the 99 Dragons actually uses DirectSound3D! I tested it with DSOAL on a hunch, but imagine my surprise when it really worked. The binaural audio is really good for such a terrible game, though unfortunately it's prone to severe glitches. Certain ambient sounds like cars that were already loud in stereo become deafening if the SFX volume is set to 4 or 5. The music also has a bad habit of going silent for no reason. I don't know if the latter is just a problem with the game, but the former is DSOAL's fault, sadly. I'm playing this with a custom Cheat Engine table from wsgf.org. Make sure you delete the included dgVoodoo2 config and disable "Capture Mouse" or else Drake will endlessly spin in circles. Oh, who am I kidding? No one's going to play this game.
