'Oh it's a Lovely War!' - British WW1 Song

'Oh it's a Lovely War!' is a British song from the end of the Great War. It satirically recounts life as a soldier in the British armed forces in Europe, telling of all the rations and payment earnt in their service. Each verse says another lie about the life in the western front's trenches, followed at the end of each paragraph with another soldier's disbelief, 'What?' 'Liar' 'Wretch!' During World War I, British soldiers on the Western Front endured harsh conditions. Trench warfare dominated the landscape, with soldiers spending prolonged periods in muddy, rat-infested trenches. These trenches were often flooded, being unsanitary and uncomfortable. Trenches experienced extreme weather conditions, from freezing to stifling heat. Despite these hardships, British forces along with the Entente defeated the Germans and Turks.
