These are the gaiter pants: https://amzn.to/3PfsGT7 In this video: -Off trail hiking means there is more prickly and uneven stuff going on around your feet and lower legs. Protection there is important. -Off trail hiking often means heavy pack, wet ground, difficult hiking conditions. You CAN go on trail runners, but you have to be really smart about this. I use Lundhags boots, single layer leather boots that are pretty waterproof, lightweight and retain little water when they are wet. Sadly those are not for sale in the US. -eyes are vulnerably things! I wear glasses, which helps a lot in dense bush. But a baseballcap, or if you have sunglasses, putting those on at strategic moments also helps preventing injury in the backcountry. -trekking poles. They are, in my opinion, worth the weight. A weird tip: one trekking pole gives you almost all the advantages of two trekking poles, and takes up half the weight and half the space. -GPS: OF COURSE, you need to be able to navigate when not using technology, but I luuuvvv GPS. -Backcountry safety: a sattelite communicator is not as expensive as it used to be and THEY ROCK.
