Khuswant Singh describes his grandmother as an old, religious woman who was difficult to imagine as once young and beautiful. Despite her physical appearance of being short, fat, and hunched, her face exuded peace, serenity, and contentment. The relationship between Khuswant Singh and his grandmother changed over time. When Khuswant Singh was a small boy living in a village, his grandmother took care of all his needs. She would wake him up, prepare him for school, accompany him, and even help him with his lessons. She was the sole caregiver, mentor, and guide in this period. However, when they moved to the city, narrator joined an English school and his grandmother's role in his upbringing diminished. She could no longer go with him to school or assist with his English studies and other subjects she couldn't understand. This change distressed her, especially when she discovered that the school focused on music instead of religious teachings, which she disapproved of. As narrator grew older and went to university, their friendship weakened further. His grandmother isolated herself and spent most of her time praying and spinning beside her spinning wheel. She rarely spoke to anyone but found solace in feeding birds in the afternoon. Despite her seclusion, she remained dignified and graceful. Throughout narrator experiences abroad and return, his grandmother became increasingly religious and self-possessed. However, on the day before her death, she deviated from her routine and celebrated narrator homecoming with the neighborhood ladies using an old drum. The following day, she fell ill and knew her end was near. She regretted missing her prayers and spent her last moments in bed praying until her lifeless fingers dropped the rosary. After her death, thousands of sparrows gathered silently around her body, even ignoring the breadcrumbs offered by narrator's mother. They only dispersed when her corpse was taken for the final rituals. the portrait of a lady class 11,the portrait of a lady, portrait of a lady class 11,the portrait of a lady class 11 in hindi, portrait of a lady class 11 in hindi, the portrait of a lady class 11 summary, the portrait of a lady class 11 in english, the portrait of a lady class 11 summary in hindi, portrait of a lady class 11 summary, the portrait of a lady class 11 question answer, portrait of a lady, the portrait of a lady summary, portrait of a lady summarythe portrait of a lady, the portrait of a lady class 11,portrait of a lady, the portrait of a lady class 11 in hindi, the portrait of a lady summary, portrait of a lady class 11,portrait of a lady class 11 in hindi, the portrait of a lady class 11th,the portrait of a lady class 11 in english, the portrait of a lady by khushwant singh, the portrait of a lady class 11 summary in hindi, the portrait of a lady in hindi, portrait of a lady, portrait of a lady summary
