2021 University of Hawai'i Cheer Team competes at UCA Virtual National Championship: The 2020-2021 UH Cheer team met in person as a full team in early February (2021), only 2 months before the championship semi-finals. Along with the late start, the team faced many challenges including only 8 males, the need to wear masks at all practices and performances, and members that may normally have been alternates having to step up heroically to fill high level positions. In February the competition looked like an impossibility, but the team courageously decided to face the challenge and worked extremely hard and fast to get a routine together in time for competition. UH ended up placing 2nd, behind a very good U of Oklahoma team. In the end, UH ended up being the only D1A team to perform/compete in masks (which now ends up being a point of pride for the team).
