Building Your Foundation ‐ Footings and Foundation Construction Home Building 101 So your home builder has excavated your lot and is now ready to construct your foundation. In order to build your new foundation, it starts with footings first! The concrete footings need to be built and installed, which is what your foundation walls will actually sit upon. Once the footings are complete, the next step in the building process is to assemble the concrete foundation forms. These metal forms need to be placed and assembled prior to pouring the cement for the walls. After the forms are together, they will be sprayed with form oil and then filled with concrete. After the new foundation walls have cured enough, the forms can be removed leaving a nice strong solid concrete foundation wall. This solid wall is the start of your new home and when done correctly will provide for a nice strong, solid and dry basement for your new home. After the foundation is complete and backfilled, the next step in the homebuilding process will be having lumber delivered and so we can start framing.
