In her compelling talk, "Understanding How Toxic Relationships Shape Your Life," Associate Professor Zuzana Ozaniak Strizová, M.D., Ph.D. explores the profound impact that living with an abusive partner has on both mental health and immune system function. She highlights how abusive behaviors—such as controlling actions, isolating from loved ones, and invading personal privacy—are not only designed to exert power over individuals but also disrupt immune cell behavior through chronic stress. This stress response leads to inflammation and significantly impairs the body’s ability to fight infections, reduces the effectiveness of vaccinations, exacerbates autoimmune diseases, and increases the risk of cancer. By shedding light on these critical connections, Dr. Ozaniak Strizová aims to raise awareness about the far-reaching consequences of toxic relationships, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing these issues for overall health and well-being. Associate Professor Zuzana Ozaniak Strizová is a clinical immunologist and leader of a pioneering research group in tumor immunology at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. With numerous highly cited publications and recognition as an influential educator, she actively promotes onco-immunology and psychoneuroimmunology through lectures and interviews. Dr. Ozaniak Strizová manages a wide range of conditions in her clinical practice and serves as an invited speaker and chairman in immuno-oncology at international conferences. She authored the book "Immunity in Questions and Answers" and has received several prestigious awards, including the L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Award.
