The ORIGIN of Indian CORN - a Native American Folktale

The "Origin of Indian Corn" is a Native American or First Nations folk tale celebrating Harvest time and great leaders. It tells of how a devoted chief saved his people from starvation by sacrificing himself as a true leader would. The brave chief's sacrifice mixed with the generosity of the Great Spirit gave rise to Indian Corn, a heritage corn that is today recognized by it's multitude of kernel colors. This reading by Evergreen Tales is taken from "THE TOPAZ STORY BOOK: Stories and Legends of Autumn, Hallowe’en, and Thanksgiving". It is a book for children compiled by ADA M. SKINNER and ELEANOR L. SKINNER. It was published in NEW YORK as a FIFTH Edition by DUFFIELD & COMPANY in 1928. The book of stories was originally copyrighted by Duffield & Co. in 1917. The video includes the text so young readers can follow along with the narrator.
