The Cotswold Way – Day 2 Winchcombe to Birdlip Hill

I’ve challenged myself to day walk The Cotswold Way in the month of May. The Cotswold Way which is 102 miles long is normally walked from Chipping Campden at it’s northern end to Bath Abbey. The Cotswold Way roughly follows the western edge of the Cotswold escarpment, which means you have wonderful views across the Severn Valley towards The Malvern Hills, The Black Mountains and the Forest of Dean. My journey along The Cotswold Way in a southerly direction. Day 1 - Chipping Campden to Winchcombe, 18 mile walk, total 18 miles. Day 2 - Winchcombe to Birdlip Hill, 20 mile walk, total 38 miles (this video), This video covers the route from my starting point in Winchcombe some 20 miles down the Cotswold Way. This first climb of the day takes us to Belas Knap a Neolithic Long Barrow, then it is onto Postlip Hall before the first good view of the day from Cleeve Hill on the Cotswold escarpment. The view towards the Malvern Hills, Hay Bluff in the Black Mountains and May Hill are expansive and wonderful. The Cotswold escarpment is followed for the rest of the walk; over Cleeve Hill Common, through Happy Valley, past Seven Springs and Leckhampton Hill Fort before arriving at Crickley Hill Fort for the last expansive view of the day. A final short walk down to the Hot Air Balloon Public House ends a wonderful days walking.
