วัดร่องขุ่น เชียงราย Wat Rong Khun (Chiang Rai White Temple)

Wat Rong Khun (Chiang Rai White Temple) Wat Rong Khun is located in Pa O Don Chai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai. It was designed and constructed by Chalermchai Kositpipat, a National Artist, who wished the temple to be like a heavenly paradise, a paradise on earth that humans can touch. Wat Rong Khun began construction in 1997 and is still ongoing today. It is nicknamed the "Wat Khao" (White Temple) because the main hall and other buildings are painted white and decorated with mirrors. The white symbolizes the purity of the Buddha, and the mirrors symbolize the wisdom of the Buddha that shines throughout the human world and the universe. ____ The architecture of Wat Rong Khun is inspired by Lanna art, combined with modern art, which is full of graceful patterns that reflect the delicacy and artistry of Thai craftsmanship. Inside the main hall, a large replica of Phra Phuttha Chinnarat’s image is enshrined. The walls of the main hall are decorated with magnificent mural paintings that narrate the story of the Buddha's life and the philosophy of Buddhism. In addition to the main hall, Wat Rong Khun also has many other interesting features, such as the Glass Pagoda, the Meditation Hall, the Buddhist Garden, and the Chalermchai Kositpipat Hall of Masterwork. ____ Wat Rong Khun is a popular tourist destination for both Thais and foreigners. Every year, many tourists come to visit Wat Rong Khun. It is one of the most interesting cultural tourist destinations. Tourists will get to experience the stunning white architecture and learn about Buddhism and Thai culture.
