Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima Fat Cat EVO four ski and snowboard carrier on top of our 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Now you can get this in both this smaller configuration and the EVO six, which is gonna be a slightly larger configuration. Just keep that in mind as you're looking at this. You've got those options and if this one isn't quite what you need, you can get larger. Now this one is going to be a really good quality one, because you get a lot of adjustment with it, in terms of how these are mounted in the pitch. So if you have a slightly different roof rack with this, that maybe puts things at a strange angle, this is going to make sure that everything is held even. And you've got really large, oversized buttons on the front, making it easy to press with the palm of your hands. So if you've got mittens or large gloves on, you're gonna be able to operate it pretty easily. The spring loaded arms are gonna open up for you and reveal the thick, rubber padding on the inside. That both gives good protection to your gear, keeping it from getting scuffed, but also keeping it from sliding around. Everything's really solid in there. When it's closed, you've got locking points on the outside right on those buttons, that will prevent them from being pressed. So no one can open it up when you're not around. And that's going to lock up the mechanisms inside to loosen or undo the clamps. So when these are closed and locked up, your gear is locked inside the jaws and the carriers are locked to the roof rack. Now one obvious downside to a carrier like this though is the height of your vehicle. The further back you put things, especially on that larger size, the harder it's gonna be to reach. You might have to open up the door, step up into the door jam, to reach those back spots and get your gear out. So that's really an unavoidable problem with a vehicle of this height. One solution to that, though, is looking at a different carrier. The Kuat Grip has trays that will actually slide out with the push of a button to you. So rather than having to climb up to reach your gear, you can bring your gear out to you. It's just one possible solution if the height of it is a concern to you, and you don't wanna step in your vehicle with some snowy shoes. Aside from that, though, I am gonna go grab my tape measurer and get some measurements. Because we wanna see how much usable space you have inside those jaws, and we wanna see how much height it adds to the vehicle. So, for the usable space inside the jaws. I know you can't see the tape measurer, but that's gonna be from the inside edge here to the inside edge over there, that's gonna be 22 inches. So lay out your gear at home and see if that's gonna work for you. If you need more space, again, you can check out that EVO six. And then from the top of the crossbar to the top of the carrier, it's only sticking up about four and a half inches. This one's gonna be very low profile. Even with your gear inside, it's not gonna be too bad. So comparing it to something like a roof box, I know a lot of people like carrying their skis and snowboards in those because they close up and lock. But the downside to that is they are very bulky. They add a lot of height to your vehicle. They're going to be bulky, whenever you store them in your garage, and they can get quite expensive. This is a very nice cost effective alternative. It's going to be not as tall on your vehicle, since it is already a taller vehicle. If we're pulling in the parking garages or other low clearance situations, that could be an issue. And it's easier to store whenever you're not using it. Easy to just put on a shelf in your garage or in a box. Otherwise, though, I think it's a really solid fit for the Grand Cherokee L. If you're gonna look at anything else I'd suggest the Kuat Grip. You've got size options as well there, and it's gonna be easier to load and unload. Thanks for watching.
