Pièce pour flûte seule (1936) - Jacques Ibert Caitlin Berger, Flute Last year, I started a series and playlist called “Caitlin Gets Back into Performing”, and though I haven’t uploaded to that playlist in almost a year, I have recorded and performed in person since then! But I thought it would be fun to keep filming music videos, as these feel like extra performance opportunities for me. The goal of these “Caitlin Gets Back into Performing” videos is to record in one take, no edits and no redos, to emulate performing live. Though this wasn’t my first take for this piece, the “live performance” sentiment still felt real to me (the jitters were VERY real!). It’s tempting to re-record pieces until you don’t hear any stumbles or mistakes whatsoever, but I’m trying to let go of that perfectionist idea and just share music with others, warts and all! :) I first learned this beautiful piece way back in 2015, during my first semester at McGill University when I was studying with Denis Bluteau. I don’t think I ever ended up performing it but it stuck with me as a gem in the flute repertoire so I decided to pick it back up this fall. I love the push and pull of happy vs. melancholic characters, and I love all the big leaps and big-hearted moments. I hope you enjoy this piece 🩷
