Hello Fanwood Families, Thank you to those of you who were available to attend our first Opening Day at Fanwood. It was a success for not only our students, but for YOU, the parents and guardians, as well. We need your feedback! If your child test positive for COVID-19, please contact Nurse Maria immediately. Maria will guide you through the next steps. COVID Vaccine for XBB & EG5 Reminder: COVID vaccines are a safe and effective way to protect from COVID-19. Last week the CDC signed off on the use of updated COVID-19 vaccines approved by the government. This week the Biden administration announced that the government will resume the distribution of FREE COVID-19 at-home tests. Beginning Monday, September 25th, every U.S. household can again place an order to receive four more free COVID-19 rapid tests delivered directly to their home. https://www.covid.gov/tes Fanwood Parent Organization Did you know that there is a Fanwood Parent Organization? On Opening Day, a few parents sat at a booth and collected names and contact information of parents/guardians interested in joining the Fanwood Parent Organization. If you are interested in joining, please contact Jennifer Tester : [email protected] . We will be sharing schedules and opportunities for the organization to meet with the Superintendent and more. Middle School/High School Principal Search Currently, I have taken on the role of High School Principal. I meet with teachers and students. I am available to meet with parents who have concerns or issues. To schedule a meeting with me, Middle and High School parents can reach out via email. We are engaged in a nationwide search for the next Principal. We want the best for our students and families. We will update you with more information as it becomes available. Athletics We are working on expanding our after school offerings. We are thrilled to have 22 students joining our after school athletics program. We will continue to grow. We want to remind parents that they have to submit regular physicals to the school in addition to the athletics physicals if students want to play. If students do not have both, we will be reaching out to families to share deadlines that may impact your child’s ability to be involved with athletics. Why two kinds of physicals? One tells us about your child’s overall wellness. The athletics physical tells you about fitness and strength. So, we need both to clear your child to play. It’s our goal to give opportunities to play to all students. For any questions please contact Jeremy Cormier [email protected]. Student Lunch Deliveries - It takes a team! NYSD is required to follow a Local Wellness Policy - part of a national initiative that encourages young people to eat and learn about eating healthy foods. At NYSD we aim to support healthy habits and educate students with a consistent message that nutritious school food helps students develop lifelong healthy eating habits. NYSD follows the law carefully and certain foods, especially unhealthy foods, are prohibited to be made available to students during the school day. In the interests of safety and health, therefore, from now on students are not permitted to order “Take-Out” or “Delivery” to campus during school hours. Students can bring lunch from home, and/or choose meal items from the school-provided lunch menu. We do have a healthy school lunch and we encourage all students to give healthy food a try. Additionally, if students really do not like the menu, they can request a cheese sandwich from the Cafeteria staff. We know your children are growing and some days they need snacks to keep them focused and energized. NYSD is developing a plan to provide healthy snacks to be available to students when needed. More information, along with a new policy, will be shared with parents within the next week. Homecoming Last, I want to remind families that Homecoming is arriving soon! Homecoming is a great day with many activities, games, and opportunities to meet other students and families. Our school’s alumni are also invited to attend.
