Lochinver and Thurso lifeboats rescue fishing vessel in heavy seas and strong winds

RNLI lifeboats from Thurso and Lochinver in Scotland assist a fishing vessel with engine problems in the early hours of the morning. The 32 metre fishing carrier reported engine problems and requested help from the Coastguard around 8pm on Sunday 7 December 2014. Lochinver lifeboat was launched immediately, followed by Thurso lifeboat at 1.30am following a tasking from Stornoway Coastguard. It took the lifeboats three hours in strong winds and stormy weather conditions to get to the scene. With an Atlantic storm tracking towards the north-west coast of the UK, conditions were proving to be challenging. Thurso lifeboat then towed the fishing vessel for over four hours in heavy seas, before handing over the tow to a Coastguard rescue boat. The Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Stornoway was also scrambled in case the crew needed to be evacuated from the ship.
