I've been learning more about the TR-8s and although I feel that I'm still using only basic features, I think I found some very useful ways to use this machine for my setup and performances. First, I decided to route the external input to one of the assignable outs and all the 11 internal tracks to the main out. This way, I can apply TR effects to all the drums without affecting the external input and still use the sidechain effect on my synths. Not a very obvious trick, but a very useful one, I think! Second, I tried to use one of the TR tracks (#11 in this case) for a deep sub-bass instead of the SE-02. I used the FM kick model for that, as it has lots of cool parameters that you can tweak. I motion recorded the tune parameter to get the desired notes. Now my SE-02 is free for other more interesting stuff like leads or secondary basslines and the bass from TR is not that bad I think. So, for this track, I used the TR-8s for drums and bass, the SE-02 for the main theme lead, JU-06a for some lead phrases, JX-08 for arp, JD-08 for strings pad and Microfreak for the bassy sound (intro and the main break).
