Shooting Expired Film | Velvia 50 + Yashica T3

A day out down the coast shooting some expired Velvia 50 slide film on the Yashica T3. I had never shot Velvia or any slide film before, so I really didn’t know what to expect which was probably a good thing. I really like the strong blue cast that most of the images have which is not too common in my other photos as I’m mainly using portra and overexposing a fair bit. I was out for a day trip around the coast and thought I would shoot through a roll of 35mm for a change, and as you may have seen, I also had my Mamiya 7 with me. I decided not to include those images as it's not really relevant to this video, but I will be making a video on that camera next week, so keep an eye out for that. So this roll of Velvia has actually been sitting in my camera since the start of this year, as I don’t really take too many 35mm photos. I had actually shot 2 frames from when I was in Bali which was kinda cool as I completely forgot about them, and there were also around 15 frames from a recent trip to the forest I did a few weeks back. If you haven’t seen the video I made on that, you can find it here:    • Видео   The weird thing with these photos is they look even more underexposed which is very surprising. I remember using flash on most of these images, but for some reason even though the flash went off, the photos are so much darker than they would’ve been without it. I don’t really know why this happened so unfortunately I lost around 90% of detail in what would’ve been some cool pictures. But I tried to convert to black and white and play around with the contrast levels and I’m pretty pleased with how that turned out. There’s a spooky and eerie feel to the photos which were somewhat reflective of the scene at the time, and while it's not the best outcome, ill happily take the results It’s definitely not going to be the last time I will be shooting slide or expired film even though I had some ordinary outcomes, I actually just purchased a roll of E100, so expect a video on that sometime in the next few months or so. If you’re thinking of shooting slide film, just keep in mind it’s far more expensive than your other formats like c41 which is color and black and white. To buy a roll its around $20, and then add another $30 for dev and scanning, and your looking at an expensive shoot. Some labs also don’t process slide film or E6 as its called, so make sure you do your research first. In my case, I went to Ikigai Camera who I believe does one of the best processing in Melbourne, check out their website here: https://ikigaicamera.com.au/ So I hope you did enjoy the photos and the video as well and have a better idea of what this sort of film might look like on a point and shoot camera. If you did enjoy please consider subscribing, as I said I have lots more of these videos planned for the future so stayed tuned for those.
