AP Psych 🧠🎶 song parody of 'Thrift Shop'

With AP exams a week away, here's a fun little ditty to help study the biological makeup of your brain (assuming you're human). A lot of thought and effort went into this, so please leave a like and comment if you enjoy! View 'Thrift Shop' by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz here:    • MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - THRIFT SHOP...   This rap parody is an updated version of a project that I made as a high school senior in 2016 for my AP Psychology class, taught by the exceptional Ms. Stiles. As I recall, I procrastinated until the night before to record, edit, and upload that parody to YouTube. Naturally, I used my school Google account, which, sometime last year, was unexpectedly terminated along with the parody video. My only backup video file was corrupted, so the original is, unfortunately, lost forever. However, I began plans to recreate the song immediately (that was about six months ago). I refined the lyrics, used better recording equipment, and incorporated new video graphics — and now, as you can see, it's done! I'd like to thank my friends, family, and fiancée for supporting me through the process and offering constructed feedback when I've needed it. I'd also like to thank Ms. Stiles for reaching out when the original parody was taken down, and also for her amazing class that allowed me to make this parody in the first place. LYRICS: Our brains are awesome yeah, so yo I’m gonna drop some knowledge Man I think a lot and ain’t a way to stop it All this in our noggins Look inside my brain like what up I got some slick thoughts I’m so pumped about psychology it, rocks! Hypothalamus lets me know what to eat When I’m hungry and it maintains my body Pituitary gland is neat, hormones make a mess of things Endocrine be secreting into blood streams Hey, it’s the thalamus Telling the sensory information where to go Limbic system here we go! Its . . . About to get emotional! Crying and whining, limbic system is emoting I am using ultimate processing — cerebral cortex Consciousness; corpus callosum connects and Communicates between the two brain hemispheres It’s kind of weird-ish when it severs, but I'ma shout out to Ms. Stiles Here's a shout out to Ms. Stiles No for real — can I get a shout out? Use your Broca’s area? Make a sound move your mouth quickly Say a word — comprehend it fast That’s the Wernicke’s You say a sound we all know I hear a sound we all know I hear it in my ears Temporal lobes, 10-4 Amygdala: emotions and fear Avoid exam anxiety with long-term memory, next door! Use your hippocampus, ace the AP test — let’s sort! Teachers will all be like: “Aw, they got the best scores” Whatcha know about the brain that’s in ya noggin? Whatcha know about frontal lobes, reasonin' and Thinkin'? I’m thinking my personality bustlin' Motor cortex — that’s for movement and hustlin' And the basal ganglia’s a clump of nuclei That facilitates the movements we make My parietals perceiving what I am sensing Sensory cortex telling me what I am touching The para will slow, sympathetic will spend The PNS divides into the Muscular somatic then autonomic Connect to CNS, the PNS neurons got it The brain and spinal cord is central — neurologic And then the occipitals — that’s for your sight! I got eyes in the back of my head, baby Back and forth and back again the pons is sending signals it communicates and regulates sensory information And now lets focus in on the brainstem It’s for survival — that’s its game, man 'Cause life is hella dope! And beating heart and set of Breathing lungs is kind of a goal . . . We thank the medulla for those operations Finally sleep — reticular formation Arousal and attention Balance (and movement) Cerebellum, yeah For x-ray use the CAT (CT) MRI gives a map (magnetic) Use PET with given task (glucose) fMRI shows how brains act (bloodflow)
