Caring for Someone with Cancer - Caregivers and Compassion Fatigue

Recorded on 8/16/2024 With Meg Cipolla When a person is diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer, their friends and family often become primary caregivers. These informal or familial caregivers usually lack preparation for the significant time, energy, and emotional, physical, social, and spiritual challenges involved. This demanding role can lead caregivers to neglect their own health which, if left unchecked, can result in burnout or Compassion Fatigue. It is important for caregivers to recognize the signs of this condition and understand the necessity of self-care while they look after their loved ones. Join us to learn more about caregiving, identifying Compassion Fatigue, and the importance of self-care. About the presenter: Meg Cipolla holds a master’s degree in Thanatology from Marian University and is a Certified Grief Counselor with the American Institute of Health Care Professionals. Inspired by the unexpected death of her mother in 2016, Meg has dedicated herself to supporting others facing serious illness and bereavement.
