How to Fix A Broken Plug

In this video, How to Fix a Broken Plug, home renovation brothers Dave and Rich, and Dave's son, Caleb, show you how easy it is to repair an electrical cord plug. Many people throw out lamps and tools just because the electrical plug is broken. As plugs are inserted into receptacles, over time they can become weak and the prongs can snap off. Don't throw out your items! Just buy a replacement plug at any hardware store, they cost about $2.50 and the repair takes 10 minutes. Tools needed: drill or screwdriver, replacement plug, wire cutters, wire stripper, maybe electrical tape 1) Cut the old cord off 2) Strip back the protective casing around the wires. Go around the casing with wire strippers, don't press too hard or you will cut into the wires. Remove the outside casing. 3) Strip back the casing around the black positive wire and the white neutral wire. 4) Open the new plug and insert both wires into the channels in the plug. Attach the black positive wire to the brass screw. Attach the white wire to the other screw. Tighten both screws. 5) Close the plug and tighten the retaining screw on the plug. Bam!
