Hiking Panthertown Backcountry in North Carolina

Panthertown Backcountry is located just NW of Lake Toxaway, NC. While we didn't see many people Thursday or Friday, the parking lot was packed as we left Saturday. Instead of sticking to the linked backcountry loop, we decided just to hit the hot spots on the eastern side of the loop. The first night we camped at Schoolhouse Falls. Schoolhouse Falls was great to camp at, but we named it 'huh' falls by the end because it was so loud we couldn't hear each other. In the morning we day hiked up to Little Green Mountain and Warden Falls. Fred and the recent tornado had knocked down trees and pulled up roots, especially at the waterfalls. This was only a problem at Warden Falls where the smell of dying pine hung in the air. We hiked our packs back to the car for lunch, then headed down to camp near Greenland Creek Falls. We hung back about a half mile from the Falls at a nice open campsite adjoining a calmer river. Greenland Creek Falls was magnificent Saturday morning, and I was able to climb all the way up to it and behind the falls! Highly recommend. We stopped in Athens on the drive back for a lunch and some beer. Definitely will be going back there again on my way to the mountains! Alltrails Link: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/no...
