Royal Enfield is about to make history with its first-ever electric bike. Now imagine all the classic styles you love, only this time—powered by clean and quiet energy. The company has unveiled two models: the classic-styled Flying Flea-C6 and the scrambler-styled Flying Flea S6. Out of these, the Flying Flea-C6 model is set to hit the roads next year. The launch signals a significant pivot for Royal Enfield towards electric mobility. Interestingly, it's named after the "Flying Flea," a lightweight, portable motorcycle used by British paratroopers in World War II, combining the spirit of legacy with futuristic ambitions. In terms of design, the Flying Flea-C6 maintains the vintage aesthetic of its petrol-driven siblings. The bike preserves the classic contours and robust build for which Royal Enfield is known, and it’s tailored for city riders who want the brand’s signature style and comfort but with the eco-friendliness of an electric vehicle. Whenever an electric 2-wheeler or EV car is launched, there's always curiosity about battery size, driving range, and charging options. These specifications are critical for potential buyers deciding between electric and traditional petrol or diesel models. However, none of these details have been revealed so far for the Flying Flea-C6. As part of its EV strategy, Royal Enfield has invested in dedicated EV manufacturing space within its facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and has assembled a team of more than 200 engineers across India and the UK to develop key components for the bike, including the motor, battery, and battery management system. In addition, the company has filed 28 patents in the last six months for in-house technology. The Flying Flea-C6 is expected to attract both Royal Enfield’s loyal fans and a new generation of environmentally conscious consumers. With its entry into the EV market, Royal Enfield joins global giants like Harley-Davidson, which has already made strides in the electric motorcycle segment. However, the brand will also be facing competition from established EV manufacturers and traditional motorcycle brands making the shift to electric. Major EV motorcycles in India right now include Revolt RV 400, Matter Area 5000, Oven Rorr, Ola Roadster, Raptee T30, and Tork Kratos.
