1971-72 Television Season 50th Anniversary: The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour (Cher '75 Cavett Interview)

As we begin our look back at the fall television season of 1971, we are focusing on a new CBS variety series called The Sonny & Cher Show. The show began as a summer series in 1971, and continued on in the early winter (December) as it became a hit must-see series. This video is from a few years later (circa 1975) after Cher and Sonny had divorced and their weekly CBS variety series had ended. Cher began her weekly ABC variety series a couple of season's later in the mid 1970s, and married rock group Allman Brothers' founder Greg Allman. This interview with Dick Cavett is quite charming and informative, and its always fun when the interviewer and the interviewee are having a nice chat and good connection, as Cavett and Cher are in this interview. Cher was a mega-star at this point in her career, with a hit television series of her own, a big-time singing career and top-40 charting, a new marriage to fellow rocker Greg Allman, and appearing on covers of major magazines. She was truly the entertainment industry's 'it girl' at that time.
