Global development challenges: towards a politics of hope

The world is facing a series of critical challenges, from climate, environment and pandemics to conflict, anti-migration policies and rising inequalities, together with backlashes against rights and justice, a rise in authoritarian populism, and the closing down of genuine democratic spaces. How can we better understand the political economic structures and agencies driving such challenges? What role do development actors, and development studies play in these processes? What radical alternatives can we look to, across civil society and social movements, which speak truths to power and help build a politics of hope?
