In this video I turn a a Spurtle - a traditional Scottish utensil used for making porridge. The thin, cylindrical stem prevents clumping while stirring the porridge. There is nothing worse than lumpy porridge! I have been given the opportunity to showcase my woodturning in a local crafts shop and was requested to make a few Spurtles and porridge bowls. I made one previously as a prototype to find my own unique design while remaining true to the traditional "thistle' top. I will use that one as a template for the rest of them. The material I use is Beech, as I have a lot on hand and it's excellent for kitchen utensils. Traditionally, Scottish Spurtles are made from Beech too. I hope you enjoy watching this quick video. There will be a video of me making a porridge bowl to go with it soon. Thank you to all my subscribers for following and supporting me!
