Republic F-105 Thunderchief The Republic F-105 Thunderchief is a supersonic tactical fighter bomber aircraft from United States that was manufactured by Republic Aviation. The F-105 Thunderchief was notable for its large internal bomb and inimitable swept-forward engine inlets in the wing roots. The F-105 was generally known as the "Thud" by its crews and bore a massive burden throughout the Vietnam War. The maiden flight of the Republic F-105 Thunderchief was on the 22nd of October 1958 and it went into service on the 27th of May 1958. Primary users were the United States Air Force (USAF). There were 833 F-105 produced between 1955 up to 1964. The F-105 retired from its service on the 25th of February 1984. Cost per unit is approx. 2,237,000 million USD.
