What do you mean by "Grading" in wood Flooring?

Wood Flooring has various grading and they have their significance when you select your flooring. They range from a very clean Prime Grade where there won't be any natural imperfections of wood to Rustic/Natural which will have all the natural imperfections of wood. This video tries to explain various grading. Prime Grade: Prime Grade is achieved by selecting those boards where there are no knots or cracks or end shakes or sapwood and filler. As you would imagine, this becomes an expensive affair and hence, Prime Grade is slightly more expensive that other grades. Hardcore wood lovers may feel that Prime looks like an artificial flooring like Vinyl! Select Grade: Select will have a mix of Prime and other Grades. They also look clean. There could be some filled elements in those where small knots are present. There could be some sap wood too Classic Grade: From now on, the natural appearance of real wood starts coming in. Classic grade will have more knots and appearance of sap wood. Character Grade: Character will have more colour variation, more knots and sap wood Natural/Rustic: Finally we reach the most natural existence of wood on a flooring. These have knots, natural colour variations, sap wood, end shakes, etc. Laying this flooring gives a real look of wood on the floor. Select your flooring accordingly!
