Sente Ne Kola /Mudondo Ohio University Percussion Ensemble Roger Braun, director The very large embaire xylophone comes from the Busoga region of Eastern Uganda and is played communally by six or more players surrounding the instrument. The embaire is related to similar Ugandan xylophone traditions, the amadinda and akadinda, but is much newer, developing over the last one hundred years. The Ohio University percussion ensemble performs the music of the Nakibembe Embaire Xylophone Group of Uganda, as taught directly by Haruna Walusimbi, director of Nile Beat Artists in Uganda, and American percussionist Mark Stone, who lived in Uganda for a year and performed with the group. Ohio University’s embaire instrument was made for them by Nakibembe Xylophone Group, and is one of just a few emabaires in the United States. Both pieces are composed by the Nakibembe Xylophone Group from the Busoga region of Uganda World Music and Dance Concert 2024 Ohio University Concert Directors: Paschal Yao Younge and Zelma Badu-Younge
