The Deutsche Bank Series at the Guggenheim: Gabriel Orozco: Asterisms, is a two-part sculptural and photographic installation comprising thousands of items of detritus the artist has gathered at two sites—a playing field near his home in New York and a protected coastal biosphere in Baja California Sur, Mexico, that is also the repository for flows of industrial and commercial waste from across the Pacific Ocean. Guggenheim curator Joan Young gives an overview of the two resulting works, "Sandstars" and "Astroturf Constellation," while artist Gabriel Orozco explains the process that led up to the exhibition, describes the meaning behind "Asterisms," the title of the exhibition, and elucidates the narrative engendered by the meticulously organized objects and accompanying photographs.
