Hey Guys, doing a little bit of an obscure one. The yamaha Su200 is an entry level sampler from 1996. We went through some of the features and found out the down sampling is actually really nice. The machine pre dates the Roland SP samplers by a few years. It was really interesting exploring the limits and the functions of this machine. I hope you enjoy! The Yamaha SU200 is a compact and budget-friendly phrase sampler designed for creating loop-based music and grooves. Let’s dive into the details: Overview: The SU200 is a 6-voice polyphonic sampler with eight pads for triggering loops and one-shot samples. It features an additional ‘Audio In’ pad for mixing external audio alongside samples. Up to 24 samples can be stored in memory, divided into three banks of eight samples each. The sampler offers data-compressed sampling and can squeeze an impressive 333 seconds of sample time from less than 1MB of onboard flash memory. The available sample grades include: High (42 seconds at 44.1kHz), Standard (22.05kHz), Long (11.025kHz), and Extra Long (5.5125kHz). Sample Editing and Effects: The SU200 provides basic sample-editing facilities. It includes a set of ‘effects,’ although these are not traditional studio effects. Instead, they enhance the creative process. The ribbon-style Scratch controller adds a fun element and can be used alone or in conjunction with the effects. Portability and MIDI: The SU200 is extremely portable and can run on six AA batteries or mains power. It stores samples to optional SmartMedia cards. On the MIDI front, it operates on a single MIDI channel, allowing up to six different samples to sound simultaneously. Summary: The SU200 is a fun and friendly sampler, but its limitations make it best suited for beginners and those with simple sampling needs. It’s a worthy successor to Yamaha’s earlier SU10, offering more features and improved capabilities.
