Malaysia - How Big is Malaysia Actually?

Covering 329,847 square kilometres (127,350 sq mi), Malaysia is the 66th largest country in the world in terms of area. Malaysia is made up of two noncontiguous regions :The Malay Peninsula, and East Malaysia ,which is situated on the island of Borneo. Combined, they’d be roughly the size of the state of New Mexico. The two regions are separated by the South China Sea by about 400 miles. Borneo is the third-largest island in the whole world, after Greenland and New Guinea. The island is shared by three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia and the Independent Sultanate of Brunei. Malaysia shares its borders with 3 countries which are Brunei, Indonesia, and Thailand. The ancestors of the people that now inhabit the Malaysian peninsula first migrated to the area between 2500 and 1500 B.C. Malaysia is located in the spice route, and traders and settlers around the region, predominantly composed of Chinese and Indians begun arriving in the peninsula around the 1st century AD and by the 3rd century, trading ports and towns were established by them. They brought Hinduism and Buddhism to the peninsula. Which began to spread quickly and dominated the regions demography for a long time. One of the early civilizations that ruled Malaysia was the Buddhist kingdom of Srivijaya which ruled from the 7th to the 12th centuries. After the Srivijaya, the Hindu kingdom of Majapahit took control. Next to arrive was the state of Malacca which was ruled by a Muslim prince and began the spread of Islam in the area and the decline of Hinduism and Buddhism. Several colonial powers ruled Malaysia since the 15th century. It was first conquered by Portuguese in 1511 and then by the Dutch 1641, And then the British east India company took control of Malaysia by the 1795. The British ruled various parts of Malaysia until world war 2. The independent state of Malaysia came into existence on Sept 16, 1963, as a federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah , and Sarawak. Between 1963 and 1965, Singapore was also a part of the fourteen states that together made up Malaysia. However, due to differences on economic and political matters between different cultural groups of Singapore and Malaysia, Singapore chose to exit the Federation . Since then, Singapore became a city-state of its own. Malaysia has a population of 32 million, Kuala Lumpur is the capital and the largest city of Malaysia.
