We get the sheep sheared!!! It’s nearly the end of June and i was starting to worry we couldn’t find someone to shear the sheep! I had been asking around and waiting for my regular lady to come back with some availability but she never did. So plan B was initiated as it was becoming a welfare issue. The hot weather and humidity creating the perfect storm for flies to lay their eggs in the fleece of the sheep, they hatch into maggots and it’s an absolute menace. Thankfully I got a recommendation for a chap called Ben to come and shear for us and he fitted us in at short notice which we were very grateful for! This video covers the day before shearing when we footbath the ewe and spray the lambs with a fly treatment, the following day we shear! There’s some scenes that show maggots hopefully not too disgusting but maybe interesting and educational to see what happens when flies use a live animal to start their life cycle!
