Chennai: 5 Die &100 Hospitalised at Indian Air Force’s Mega Air Show | ISH News

The Indian Air Force (IAF) held a mega air show at Chennai’s Marina Beach on 6th October 2024 to celebrate its 92nd anniversary. The event drew around 15 lakh people, eager to witness the aerial display of 72 IAF aircrafts, including fighter jets like Rafale, Tejas, and SU-30. It was the first IAF air show in South India, making it a highly anticipated event. Despite the excitement, the show soon turned tragic. The large crowd, combined with scorching heat, led to 230 people fainting due to dehydration and suffocation. Unfortunately, five people lost their lives, and around 100 were hospitalized. Tamil Nadu’s Health Department reported 93 hospitalizations for heatstroke and dehydration, with most patients discharged after receiving medical aid. The overcrowding caused a near-stampede situation, leaving parts of Chennai gridlocked for hours as people struggled to return home. Authorities took over three hours to control the crowd and restore order at and around the Marina Beach. The incident raised concerns about the planning and safety measures for the event. BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai criticized the ruling government, accusing them of poor management and lack of facilities for the public. He blamed Chief Minister MK Stalin and the DMK government for not ensuring proper arrangements, including transport, medical aid, and water stations. AIADMK leaders echoed these criticisms, with some even calling for the resignation of Tamil Nadu’s Health Minister, Ma. Subramanian. In response, Subramanian defended the government’s efforts, claiming that multiple coordination meetings were held, and all necessary arrangements, including medical teams and ambulances, were in place. The tragic outcome of the Chennai air show has sparked a debate on the preparedness and safety measures for large public events. #Chennai #IndianAirForce #IAF #MegaAirShow #ChennaiNews #MarinaBeach #TamilNadu #BreakingNews #LatestNews #IndiaSigningHands #ISH #ISHNews #ISL #IndianSignLanguage #SignLanguage ISH News broadcasts the Daily News and Entertainment online in Deaf-friendly accessible formats which are in Indian Sign Language (ISL), visual images with titles, voice-over and closed-captions.
