How to FIX HIGHWAY TRAFFIC in Cities: Skylines 2

In this Cities: Skylines 2 video I will be showing you my top 7 tips on how to fix and improve highway traffic. Tip 1 is to have more that one or two highway entrances/highway connections into your city. This is going to help disperse traffic more evenly into your city instead of it all coming through on one or two highway connections. Only having one or two connections will definitely cause you traffic problems at some point. Tip 2 is to try running highways around or through your city. By doing this you are again going to help disperse traffic more evenly into you city, helping traffic reach its destinations faster. Tip 3 is to adjust any highways, interchanges, intersections and junctions so they have dedicated turning lanes and dedicated turning roads. Doing this will really improve highway traffic flow by reducing the chance of any last minute lane changes, which will usually cause road clogs and blocks. To do this, just upgrade the highway with an extra lane before a turning and after a joining. If the road or lane is not in line with the rest of the highway then go over to the road upgrade/replace, turn off all snapping options and you will be able to move the road more freely to line it back up with the rest of the highway. If you want your extra lanes to only extend so far, then whilst on the type of road your using, double left click on the point of the road that you want the lane to extend to, doing this will create a road node. So you can now remove a lane from the point at which you created the node. Tip 4 is to try being a little more confident and creative in building some custom junctions, intersections and interchanges. It doesn't need to be anything crazy or incredible, just try adding a few dedicated turning roads linking into your city, just so you've got a few extra options for traffic to get back on or off the highway. Again, having lots of connections is really going to help disperse traffic more evenly into your city. Tip 5 is to avoid junctions too close to any interchanges, as this going to stop and slow traffic that is coming into your city, which will eventually cause tailbacks onto your highway. So try to avoid junctions straight away, just keep the roads going uninterrupted for a while, and when you do have your first junction coming off your highway, make sure its something traffic flow friendly, like some one way roads breaking off or a large roundabout. Tip 6 is to use the no turning signs to help improve highway traffic flow, but you need to make sure that the traffic that can no long turn the direction it needs has an alternative route to reach its destination. So the example I used in this video was traffic wanting to go straight at a junction, so I built a highway bridge going over the junction and joining back onto the highway again and placed a no going straight sign at the junction, and immediately you could see an improvement in traffic flow. Again, take note on how I added extra lanes before the bridge joining and after, perfecting this lane math is what will really help to get the best highway traffic flow possible. And finally, tip 7 is to check out district policies and city policies. At the time of recording this video there is only one city policy that will help highway traffic, but there may be more added in future updates or DLC's, so make sure to read through them all to see what each one does. The only city policy to help us at the moment though is the high-speed highways policy. This removes all highway speed limits so that highway traffic can flow faster, but keep in mind that this policy also increases noise pollution and increases the chance of traffic accidents.
