In this Video my family takes a short trip to BELGRADE, SERBIA. We found out really quickly that this City is Massive and that to get to know all of its beauty, you truly need a lifetime. BELGRADE is very rich in HISTORY and extremely old. BELGRADE is also very kid friendly, our toddler loved it here, we all had a great time. The only downfall was the heat. The heat really hindered us from exploring the city, and even cut our tour of Kalemegdan short. The fortress is literally thousands of years old (so cool). Belgrade, has an immense history, the capital city of SERBIA, boasts a rich and tumultuous history that spans several millennia. Its strategic location at the confluence of the SAVA and DANUBE rivers has made it a coveted prize throughout history. The city's roots trace back to antiquity, with the ancient settlement of Singidunum established by the ROMANS around 35 BC. This early urban center flourished under Roman rule, becoming a significant fortification and trade hub in the province of Moesia. During the MEDIEVAL period, Belgrade's strategic importance grew as it became a key battleground between the Byzantine Empire and various invading forces. The city changed hands multiple times, witnessing the rise and fall of numerous empires and kingdoms. In the 12th century, the SERBIAN KINGDOM under the rule of Stefan Nemanja fortified Belgrade, integrating it into the growing Serbian medieval state. In the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire, expanding its reach into Southeastern Europe, captured Belgrade in 1521. The Ottomans transformed the city into a major administrative and military center, with Belgrade serving as a critical outpost in their European campaigns. The city's role as a frontier town led to numerous sieges and battles, most notably the Siege of Belgrade in 1688 and again in 1690, when the Habsburg Monarchy sought to wrest control from the Ottomans. The 19th century marked a period of transformation for Belgrade as it became the focal point of SERBIAN NATIONALISM and the struggle for independence from the Ottoman Empire. The city played a central role in the Serbian Revolution, which culminated in the establishment of the modern SERBIAN PRINCIPALITY. By the late 1800s, Belgrade had evolved into the capital of the newly recognized Kingdom of Serbia, and it underwent significant modernization and expansion. The early 20th century saw Belgrade at the heart of the tumultuous events of the Balkan Wars and World War I. Following the war, it became the capital of the newly formed Kingdom of Yugoslavia. During World War II, the city was occupied by Nazi forces and suffered extensive damage. Post-war, Belgrade emerged as the capital of socialist Yugoslavia under the leadership of Josip Broz Tito, undergoing a period of reconstruction and growth. With the disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, Belgrade experienced significant political and economic upheaval. The NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999 left scars on the city, but it gradually rebuilt and adapted to the new realities of the 21st century. Today, Belgrade stands as a vibrant and resilient city, reflecting a rich tapestry of its past while embracing the future as a capital of a democratic and independent Serbia. #Serbia #Belgrade #Europe #europetravelvlog
