Boondocking At Horseshoe Campground

Boondocking at Horseshoe Campground in the Pike National Forest using the Palomino SS1240 Truck Camper this weekend at 11,00 foot elevation was amazing. I had no idea the mosquitoes were that bad way up in higher elevation. Last year we never came across many, but this weekend we were ate up from the time we stepped out of the truck to the time we left. There was no amount of deet bug spry we could put on to keep them away. Even the thermalcells didn't work. The bike trails were rough. We could have road for days, but my back decided it was not worth it and we chose to take a walk in the woods. The hiking trail was great and with the cleared forest, you can go off trail and explore all you want. The 4 Mile Creek had a couple of spots where if you had the skill, could catch a few brook trout. Needless to say I did not have the skills or the equipment to do so. In the end I still got to wet a line and see some really pretty spots. Just sitting on the bank, next to a running river, in the mountains was enough for me. Even though it rained off and on all weekend, we made the best of it. I also got to use the Insta 360 camera while hiking. I think I like it.
