The Boswell Sisters (vocal chorus) with orchestral accompaniment - including Eddie Wade and Russ Case (trumpet), Artie Shaw (alto saxophone and clarinet), Will Bradley (trombone), Carl Kress (guitar), Stan King (drums) and Dick Cherwin (string bass). Recorded in New York City on October 8th 1935. The song was written by Irving Berlin for the 1935 RKO Musical Picture "Top Hat", in which Fred Astaire sings it to Ginger Rogers. The song immediately became very popular, recorded by many artists like Fred Astaire with Leo Reisman Orchestra (1935), Guy Lombardo (1935), Ella Fitzgerald with Louis Armstrong (1957), Peggy Lee - Doris Day - Billie Holiday (all 1958), Frank Sinatra (1959) or Tony Bennett with Lady Gaga (2014). Constance "Connee" Boswell (1907 - 1976) was an American female vocalist. She became famous at the end of the Twenties to the mid Thirties together with her sisters Martha and Helvetia "Vet", performing as the trio "The Boswell Sisters" (predecessors of and model for the Andrews Sisters). After her sisters retired in 1936, Connee continued on very successful as a solo artist. The fotos in the video show the Boswell Sisters in the 1930s. This DECCA record is played on a Phillips Radiogram from 1956!
