God Vishnu in this temple is the chief deity and He is in the form of God Devanatha Perumal. He can be seen in this temple with his consort Sengamalam Thayar. This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam temples.Once Perumal was very thirsty so he ordered his vahana Garuda to get water for him so that his thirst is quenched. Garuda was late to come back and Adishesha had struck the ground with his tail. He created a spring and gave water to God. This spring can be seen in this temple and it is called as Sesha Theertham. Devotees come here and put jiggery, salt and pepper so that they can get rid of the illness they are suffering from. People who suffer from the negative serpent effects also come here to be able to get rid of them.
