Made a cool addition to the milsurp collection. This is an Imperial Japanese Navy Type I Carcano rifle from World War II. It could possibly be the best Carcano ever produced and the funny thing is, it wasn't even used by Italy. I picked up this particular example from Axis Arms and the shipping box was completely trashed by UPS. Luckily it didn't suffer any major damage. The Type I is a very interesting fusion of east and west. It has a 1891 Carcano action but pretty much everything else is like the Japanese Type 38 rifle. I have shot quite a few carcano rifles and this one holds the crown in my opinion. I believe the substitution of a Mauser style internal magazine in place of the Carcano standard, Mannlicher, style magazine is a major reason the action feels so much better than the average Carcano.
