It's now the summer of 2017, but in the Spring of 2015 my son and I bought derelict 1971 VW Beetle with the intent to make a fast Baja conversion. At the time we didn't know it was a Super Beetle, and we didn't know Super Beetles couldn't be Baja Bugs. In fact we didn't know anything about anything! We had very little automotive experience, but figured we could learn as we went. Once we started to take it apart we discovered it was involved a fire. Our choices were to scrap the car or do a body-off restoration. Well you know by now what our choice was. And thus began our journey to turn a Super Beetle into a VW Gangster Hot Rod!
