Scruffy's Reunion - When a brumby family is torn apart then reunited.

During the summer of 2018 Environmental water flooded more than half of the Barmah Forest. The forest that was unflooded was in drought. Brumbies were dying horrible deaths due to starvation. The decision was made by BBPG (of which I was a Committee Member: I left the Barmah Brumby Preservation Group along with Berny and Renee to form our own group the Barmah Brumby Hay Angels) to feed the Brumbies on Private Property and in the park. On Private Property we would feed Round Bales & Lucerne Hay. In the Park, it was only Lucerne. This is where Scruffy's Story Starts. Along the Boundary Track, near Gowers Gate, were 3 Brumbies walking along the track slowly. It was Mum, Dad & this tiny Scruffy Weed in between them. They ended up in the Private Property where other Brumbies we being fed. This was to be their lucky day. Mum and Dad dotted on their Tiny Foal. They were loners, only requiring each other for company. Dad, only had one Mare and she was his world, as was his tiny Scruffy Daughter. With the extra feed, they thrived. Scruffy may be little in size but she had balls. Dad was always bailing her out of situations Scruffy got herself into. Like wandering away from her family to pinch Hay from under a Stallions nose. Then sticking the boots into them when they retaliated. Dad was too the Rescue once again. Mum and Dad were placid gentle souls, with a daughter who was afraid of nothing. When the Brumbies knew the water had receided in the Forest they walked in search of the green pick they somehow knew was there. Even though they were being fed, they were Brumbies and could survive once again. Mum went on to have more foals. Apples, was found wandering around by himself, he found a home with Charlie. So this beautiful family was torn apart. Scruffy at the BBPG Sanctuary, took over Dad's Roll. Scruffy had to step up and be Dad. She had to protect her family she did, with both barrels. Barmah Brumby Hay Angels, were determined to put this family back together somehow. Yesterday was to be that day. What an amazing sight. Dad welcomed his family back. His facial expression changed; he had a contentment to him now. But Miss Bossy Boots wasn’t about to let him just take over without a few double barrels in his direction. When we left the family, Scruffy was lying down in the Sun. Dad was in the rear, looking over his beautiful family. This is what the Barmah Brumby Hay Angels are all about....the welfare of the Brumbies before the almighty $$$'s. As it should always be. The reunion of this beloved and well-known family has incurred significant emotional, physical, and financial costs. To facilitate this reunion, the Barmah Brumby Hay Angels needed to raise $2,500 to purchase the brumbies from the Barmah Brumby Preservation Group, along with $600 for the professional transport of three brumbies and $700 for the gelding of the two stallions—Dad and Chance. In total, we needed to secure $3,800, and we are grateful to the generous individuals who contributed during the planning stages. Without the support of our dedicated brumby community, this purchase and relocation would not have been possible. However, our account has been significantly depleted following this substantial outlay. We thank those that dug deep to ensure we had the money to make this dream come true. Over the years, we have contributed over $38,000 to various brumby groups. Now, we find ourselves in need of assistance to ensure the continued health of this brumby family, particularly for those like Mum and Angel, whose needs require attention. Kelli Sinclair Hicks has graciously taken them in without asking for any financial support, yet it remains the responsibility of the Barmah Brumby Hay Angels to meet all their needs. We are also excited to announce that we will be offering an enticing raffle prize in the coming month. Kaye, Lisa, and Renee wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the brumby community, which has supported us over the past six years. We look forward to the next six years together. We’re all feeling like the puzzle has been put back together as best we can. Thank you @everyone Kaye Moor Lisa Williams Keep updated via our Facebook page   / barmah.hayangels
