Urticaria is also known as hives or wheals or nuttel rash. This is one of the commonest from of allergies. Urticaria presents with a red patch which is slightly elevated from the normal skin level and it is very itchy. The size of the Urticarial rash can vary from 1 cm to the size of your hands. This can occur in any part of your body at any point of time. Urticaria can be classified into two types. One is acute urticaria and chronic Urticaria. Acute urticaria lasts for upto 6 weeks and is usually a self-limiting condition where it gets resolved by itself. In chronic urticaria it may need treatment. In chronic urticaria, the lesions are present for more than 6 weeks. The urticaria is caused due to the release of histamines, which can be due to many factors like the dust, pollen, pollution, the food what we have consumed, or sometimes even the drugs we have taken can release the histamines, which can lead on to the rash. Similar symptoms of urticaria can be a reddish rash which is slightly elevated from your skin level which is slightly itchy and sometimes. Most of the times, the urticarial rash subsides by itself within a few minutes to one or two hours, but in some of the cases, the lesions may persist for one or few days as well. Some of the patients of uticaria can experience difficulty in breathing, where they must consult the doctor as early as possible.
