The Hatchling - Our Year -Wakefield District 2024

As the heart of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 was The Hatchling, a spectacular outdoor show featuring a ground-breaking dragon puppet created and produced by Trigger – creators of unforgettable, large-scale outdoor theatre and art. The Hatchling offered people across the Wakefield district the opportunity to get involved with culture and creativity. Hatching from an egg outside Wakefield Cathedral, the dragon built herself a nest and explored the city centre with a series of events prepared especially for her majestic visit. With over 20 community groups and 300 participants from across the Wakefield district taking part, there were a few surprises along the way as sports clubs, choirs, dancers and more welcomed The Hatchling to Wakefield.
