Down the Wild Owyhee | 2024 edition | Rome to Leslie Gulch

In May 2024 we floated the Owyhee River, in Oregon, from Rome to Leslie Gulch. Flows were ideal at 2700 CFS. We camped at Hike Out, Ryegrass, and Morcum camps with a layover at Morcum, for a total of five days on the river. Weather was close to ideal except for winds, especially the first day. The weather in combination with the flows and the spectacular scenery the Owyhee offers made for a great trip. ___________________________________________________________________________ I do have to say, [start of rant] the put in was crowded with disrespectful uncourteous boaters who seemed to be launching on their first ever float, (except they weren't) taking up the entire launch for over twelve hours, eating breakfast where trucks and trailers were trying to maneuver, and doing everything but what you should be doing while launching, and those people and their entitled behavior seemed to follow us down most of the river. Some day, hopefully a few years off, these people and their lack of respect and etiquette are going to trigger a whole new set of rules and likely a permit system. We can do better.
