Is your knitting gauge always on the tight side, and your swatches come out at a tighter tension than planned? What do you then do when a pattern is written for a thin yarn knit at a very loose tension? Knitting tension is personal - and sometimes, despite knitting [what feels like] thousands of swatches, you just can't match the required gauge in a knitting pattern. Should you keep increasing needle size, or substitute for a thicker yarn and hope to make up the difference that way? In this video, I unravel the different issues that are knotted up here around knitting tension and yarn substitution, and suggest a range of solutions. This video is the first in a series where I answer the knitting problems that you're currently facing. Have you got a knitting problem that you'd like me to help you solve?
